WARNING
- Did You Know? –
-
• Belize law requires any company or individual who offers or provides bodyguard, private
investigation, security consulting, or private security services to be licensed
by the Belize Police Department.
-
•Individuals offering to provide bodyguard services must either possess a
Private Security Guard license or be employed by you in a bona fide
employer-employee relationship as a watchman. A bona fide employer-employee
relationship means you must put them on your payroll, pay Social Security, and
comply with all Workers Comp and other employment tax laws. They cannot work as
independent contractors.
• This protects you by ensuring bodyguards, private
investigators, security consultants, and private security providers are
reputable, experienced, adequately insured, and properly regulated.
• Security
providers may not employ unlicensed personnel as “independent contractors”.
Independent security providers may not use someone else’s license number. Any
company that advertises that the security personnel they provide are working as
independent contractors is probably operating illegally.
- Important Advice! - • Before you hire any bodyguard, private investigator, security consultant, or
security guard always:
• Have them provide you with a copy of their Police
issued Private Investigator or Private Security Guard license. Bodyguards are
required to be licensed as Private Security Guards. Security Consultants are required
to possess either a Private Investigator or Private Security Guard licence.
• Have them show you written proof that they are insured to provide the services
you are seeking.
• Verify with the Police Department that their license is
valid and that the name on any advertisement matches the name on the license.
• Be skeptical of unsubstantiated claims and unverified credentials listed on
websites or in other marketing materials. When laws or references are quoted,
verify the source and accuracy of the quotes.
• Avoid doing business with
anyone who claims to be legitimate but then offers excuses and explanations
about licensing inconsistencies or why the law doesn’t apply to them. The law
does apply to them; only a person or firm that is actually licensed can
advertise or provide security and investigation services. Legitimate security
and investigative professional don’t make excuses. They are happy to show that
they are properly licensed.
- Is The Risk Worth It? -
• Criminals often pose as bodyguards, security guards or private investigators.
• Unlicensed bodyguards, private investigators, security consultants, and private security providers
have not undergone a criminal background check conducted by the Police Department. They may have been convicted of sex offenses or other felony
crimes.
• Many unlicensed bodyguards, private investigators, security consultants, and private security providers have little or no professional
training and experience. Hiring them is not only a waste of your money; it may actually
be dangerous for you.
• Unlicensed bodyguards, private investigators, security
consultants, and private security providers don’t usually carry insurance to
protect you.
• Even if an unlicensed bodyguard, private investigator, security
consultant, or private security provider is insured, insurance companies do not
cover illegal activities. If they harm you in any way, you lose.
• If you hire an unlicensed bodyguard, private investigator, security consultant, or private
security providers and someone is injured as a result of their unlicensed
activity, you are likely to be sued and may be found personally liable for any
damages they caused. If they violate the Laws Of Belize while working on your
behalf, you may be subject to criminal prosecution.
- For Your Protection - • Licensing requirements protect you by ensuring that bodyguards, private
investigators, security consultants, and private security providers are clearly
identified and are reputable, experienced, properly trained, adequately
insured, and closely regulated. • Despite the law, many private investigators,
bodyguards and private security providers in Belize are unlicensed or not
otherwise in compliance with the law. • Some do it out of ignorance. How
competent can they be if they aren’t even aware of the laws that regulate their
profession and protect you?
• Some know their unlicensed activity is a crime, but do it anyway. If they can’t be trusted to obey the law, how can they be
trusted to protect you?
• Most unlicensed bodyguards, private investigators, security consultants, and private security providers are just Amateurs or
“Wanna-Be’s” who are playing at being investigation or security professionals…at your expense.
• Do you trust AMATEURS, INCOMPETENTS and CRIMINALS to protect you? Do you want them learning your personal security and
business secrets and weaknesses? Do you want people to associate you or your
business with their unprofessional conduct?
- Verification -
• Always verify
that security consultants, private investigators, bodyguards or private
security providers are reliable, trustworthy, properly licensed, and adequately
insured before you hire them.
• Belize’s licensed professional bodyguards,
private investigators, security consultants, and private security providers are
concerned for your safety. They recommend that you to exercise great care when
choosing a security or investigative service. And, they encourage you to file a
complaint with the Belize Police Department, if you become aware of unlicensed
activity. To verify that a bodyguard, private investigator, security
consultant, or private security provider is properly licensed, or to file a
complaint, call the Belize Police Department
and transaction versus relationship.
Is it just me? Are you finding it harder to find companies that offer excellent service? Does this sound familiar: “We’re sorry Mr./Mrs. So and so, but there’s nothing we can do. If this were a real problem, we would have heard from thousands of other customers…” When I pay for a service and something goes wrong, I expect to be serviced. Don’t hold your breath if your paying cheap or cut rate prices. To sustain a viable business costs and those costs obviously are passed on to the customer.
The purpose of a business is to create and keep a customer."Relational" customers have higher lifetime value than their "Transactional" counterparts. You won't attract many with promotions, discounts, and advertising focused only on the last part of the buying process. If you want more relational customers, you need more patience, better planning, and more empathy
In a recent Monday Morning Memo, I laid out the differences between the two modes of shopping:
The transactional shopper:
· Is focused only on today's transaction with little thought of the possibility of future purchases.
· Fears only paying more than necessary. Price is the primary value determinant.
· Enjoys comparing and negotiating and will shop at several stores before making a decision to purchase.
· Does her own research so she won't need to consult an expert. Consumer Reports is published for the transactional shopper.
· Doesn't consider time spent shopping part of the purchase price.
· Is eager to share the "good deal" she found. She's an excellent source of word-of-mouth advertising.
The relational shopper:
· Considers today's transaction one in a long series of many future exchanges. Business has priority over product.
· Fears only making a poor choice. Confidence is the primary purchase motivator.
· Doesn't enjoy the shopping and negotiating process.
· Seeks an expert he can trust.
· Considers time to be part of the purchase price.
· Feels confident he's found "the right place to buy." He will very likely become a repeat customer.
